NOW seeking several funded MSc and PhD students in the Applied and Computational Mathematics program at Simon Fraser University (SFU), to work on hybrid scientific machine learning and numerical weather prediction (NWP) with a particular focus on the Canadian Arctic.   Positions also available in the topics of PDEs on surfaces, and time-stepping methods for PDEs.   See the “Opportunities” drop down menu for details.

Steve Ruuth is a Professor of Mathematics in the Applied and Computational Mathematics Group at Simon Fraser University. He completed his PhD at the University of British Columbia in 1996. This was followed by a position at UCLA as an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow and Visiting Assistant Professor (1996 -1999). He was the winner of the Canadian Applied and Industrial Mathematics (CAIMS) Doctoral Dissertation Award in 1996. In 2011, he was awarded the Germund Dahlquist Prize from the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) for his research contributions to the development and understanding of the numerical solution of initial value problems for ordinary and partial differential equations. In 2020, he was awarded the Canadian Applied and Industrial Mathematics Research Prize for contributions to the development of robust numerical methods for time dependent partial differential equations and interfacial dynamics, and the impact of his work in scientific computing. He is a member of the editorial boards of SIAM J. Sci. Comput., Numer. Math.-Theory Me. and Appl. Numer. Math.
